Get on the bus

Liz April 16, 2010 In Treatment 2 Comments

I am riding bus to work today as a practice run for next week.

If the next round of Temodar is anything like the last, I can expect to be exhausted by the time Ieave work. I want to avoid driving as much as I can.

    Hi Liz,
This made me curious in combination with your recent posts about your partial seizure.. Do you keep your drivers license in the US even with the occational seizure? Do you get auras that tell you when you have to pull over? I started having some seizures myself, and are now on anti-seizure meds. But here getting the meds (and so far stopping the seizures) made me immediately lose my lisence. Catch 22..
Thanks again for your blog. I am so glad I found it so soon after my diagnosis/surgery. Wishing you all the best for your next round of temodar and hope you'll get some good sleep on the bus after work.

    Dear Ingrid:

When I had my first grand mal seizure (July 2008) I lost my driver's license. In the state of California you can not get your driver's license back until your seizures are under control (i.e., have not had a lapse of consciousness) for six months or more and you have a note signed by your doctor.

I was able to get my license back in July 2009 (11.5 months after my first seizure). While I do have occasional partial seizures, I do not lose consciousness and they are VERY minor. I experience an aura in advance so I know that one is coming on.

I have never had a seizure while driving (thank god!). Actually, I had a bit of anxiety about that very concept when I first started driving again.

I hope all is working out well for you and that your seizures are kept at bay thanks to medication.

    Your friend,
    Liz
