There’s this guy I met at the UC Davis brain tumor support group, Mark Miller. He was there to make a presentation on managing health with technology – and Mark had brain cancer too.

I was excited about this presentation because I use my iPhone to track my chemo treatments, I log my seizures and medication with PatientsLikeMe.com, and I write this blog, of course.

I really enjoyed Mark’s presentation and felt I could identify with this fellow Apple computer-loving, tech-geek with brain cancer.

I bookmarked Mark’s blog on my computer and checked in from time to time. I even wrote to him. He gave me some good advice about fear and death.

Mark passed away from our disease in late July. I found out about it about a week later. I read the post his father put on the blog.

My crying was out of control and loud. Brett asked me what was wrong. I said, “My friend died!”

I had only met Mark once, but he helped me. And he was my friend.
