Unemployment vs. disability

I feel bad that so many of my friends have been laid off (and not just people from the City).

I can think of more than ten people! This sucks.

If I were still working for the City I wonder if I would be feeling the stress of layoffs. I don't think I would since my division was considered a tiny "enterprise fund", but we were part of a larger department that saw layoffs.

I wonder if I am lucky to be on disability right now and not be stressing about this.

I wonder, is disability better than unemployment? I guess not. At least if you're laid off your employer has to pay 65% of your COBRA.

I think there are lots of things to consider, though. It's important that all parties, regardless of unemployment or disability, that everyone is treated fairly and with respect.

One piece of advice I do have; make sure you are insured. After reading this, make sure you look around and find the best premium for you to ensure you do not suffer if you are one of the many people that is not treated fairly.
