Do you need me?
I am now a patient support volunteer for the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS).
If someone gets diagnosed with a brain tumor they can visit the NBTS Web site and search by tumor type and/or age range to find a volunteer who has gone through a similar experience. Future brain tumor patients will be able to email and ask questions like, "What is Temodar like?" or "Did you ever get your seizures under control?" Basically, this is a pen pal program for brain tumor peeps.
I am not supposed to offer any medical advice (nor would I want to) but I am honored to help others who may find themselves in this crazy situation.
When I first learned about my brain tumor all I could think about was how much I wished Logan Whitehurst were still alive to help me through the "not knowing" phase. While I didn't get to talk to Logan in real life I did have many dreams about him during that time.
Maybe there are people out there who need to talk to someone who has been through the beginning of this healing process... someone who is going through the long, drawn out chemo process... someone who embraces the process for what it is: a series of steps to get back to regular life.
