Burns with brain damage

After my second brain surgery I suffered from minor damage in the left parietal lobe. Part of this damage includes mild sensory loss on the right side of my body. Normally this isn't a big deal--in fact, I've gotten used to it over time.

But this week--man, oh man--I damaged myself quite a bit.

Earlier in the week I was baking brownies and burned the back of my right arm on the inside door to the oven. I felt the burn occur but it didn't hurt much.

In the past, if I burned myself on the oven it would sting for a while and I'd need to soothe the injury under lukewarm tap water. This time, it wasn't bad. It was "meh." I didn't care for my skin properly because it didn't hurt and within a day a brown burn mark appeared on my skin.

Then today I was boiling water for tea and the kettle was filled too high. When I pulled the boiling water off the stove it sloshed out of the spout and all over my right foot--the area where I am most numb. Instinctually, I cursed because I thought it would hurt--but it didn't. The burning hot water only felt mildly warm to me. It didn't hurt at all.

Now, 20 minutes later, I can feel some tingling on the top of my foot but that is all.

I'm sure within the next day I can expect a burn to appear on the top of the foot, but surface pain will never bother my right side.

I don't know if this is a blessing or a horrible, horrible curse.
